Sensual desire is a normal basic emotion which cannot be precluded as it is intrinsic to creation and life. Scriptures speak of the duality of desire, the good and bad effects, but it does not mean it is a sin. David writes that god himself desires truth in the inner souls of men (Psalm 51:6).
In religious parlance sensual desire is a widely misinterpreted and misunderstood emotion to which an unnecessary stigma of guilt is attached. Even biblically (genesis 1.31) god created man with desire to accomplish his goals. Desires or cravings for food, alcohol, sex, money and pleasure are physical appetites that need to be addressed.
Kama or sensual desire is part of Indic philosophy, the glorious spark that ignites dormant longings into existence. The Unknown, Mysterious One felt the impulse of desire and creation sprang forth in the world. (Colossians 3.5) states, that a desire beyond limits is only idolatry through which we gratify our carnality. In Tantra, creation is understood as explicitly sexual – male and female attraction, the union of Shiva and Shakti.
Here sexual desire is sacred – the pulse of the universe vibrates on this frequency.Worldly desires are not animalistic; they are the refined passions of mankind, our salvation lies in satiating these desires not suppressing them. Spirit and flesh flirt before joining and consummating this desire which is the highest energy in the emotional spectrum.
